Amazing Blue Hawks Football Season Comes To An End
Dickinson State University’s amazing football season ended Saturday afternoon at Carroll College by a score of 35-18. The DAC Champion Blue Hawks came into the game on a seven game win streak. However, the NAIA top ranked and undefeated Saints were very tough and the Blue Hawks got off to a slow start. As Coach Biesiot stated, “Our biggest fear was getting off to a bad start. That was realized.”
DSU kicker Brett Robertson made a 25-yard field goal with four seconds left in the first quarter for the Blue Hawks’ first points of the first half.
DSU quarterbacks Brandon Bishop-Parise and Caleb Midura combined to go 17 of 35 for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
The Blue Hawks rushed for 88 yards. Zach Hepperle led the team with 46 yards rushing on nine carries.
“They (the Saints’ defense) were tough up front,” Biesiot said. “Up front and in the trenches, they controlled those most of the day both offensively and defensively. We were a little bit afraid of that and that was our problem all day.”
Bishop-Parise hooked up with Blaine Berg for a 26-yard touchdown pass-and-catch with 6:34 left in the third quarter, cutting Carroll’s lead to 28-10.
Senior receiver Jon Breitbach, a two-year starter, hauled in the first TD of his career on a 3-yard dump from Midura with 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Midura was 5 of 7 for 75 yards passing after taking over for Bishop-Parise, who suffered a rib injury in the fourth quarter.
Hepperle had a team-high five catches for 46 yards. Berg, Breitbach, Derek Pauley and Clint Grosz each had three receptions. Berg led the Blue Hawks with 69 yards receiving.
