The Dickinson State University intercollegiate athletic program is one of the most successful in the Midwest.
Offering a broad range of sports, Dickinson State has a tradition of developing outstanding student-athletes who are winners in their competitive academic and athletic endeavors.
Our athletic teams are affiliated with the eight-member Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).
The Blue Hawks compete in football, volleyball, men and women’s cross-country, men and women’s basketball, wrestling, men and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men and women’s golf, baseball, softball and men and women’s rodeo.
Dickinson State athletics enjoyed another outstanding school year in 2007-08. The Blue Hawks captured Dakota Athletic Conference championships in volleyball, indoor and outdoor men’s track and field, softball and in women’s golf. In both softball and baseball, Dickinson State won the DAC Tournaments and headed into the NAIA playoffs. The softball team reached the “elite eight” of the national tournament for the second consecutive year. The Blue Hawk wrestling team was led by three-time national champion and two-time national wrestler of the year Justin Schlecht, and they placed third at the national meet for the second year in a row. Dickinson State’s men’s track team finished second at the NAIA national meet, and now boasts three national titles and three runner-up finishes in the last six years. Three times in the last four seasons, Dickinson State has won the DAC Commissioner’s Cup, which is given annually to the top athletic department in the conference.
Dickinson State provides excellent coaches, trainers, and athletic administrators who have one goal in mind -- to see student-athletes reach their fullest potential.
The involvement of the Dickinson State intercollegiate athletics staff with students extends beyond the boundaries of competition, as coaches and administrators take on the roles of teacher, adviser, and friend.
Dickinson State's state-of-the-art equipment and top quality sports facilities will give you the ability to refine your skills and obtain that extra winning edge.
In the Dickinson State intercollegiate athletics program, student-athletes come first. They are the reason we have been a success, and they are the reason the tradition of excellence will continue for years to come.
